Buckbee Brehm Motto – GRADUATION – Circa 1920’s
GRADUATION
The rarest gems are seldom found
Exposed to view; upon the ground.
They’re hidden deep beneath the earth,
To gain them, we must prove our worth.
The pinnacle of fame is won,
By those who would not be outdone.
Tho lower levels may appeal;
They cannot satisfy true zeal.
Dame Fortune favors those who TRY,
To reach the goal that’s grand and high.
The one who gets the proper slant,
Will never tell the World “I CAN’T.
GRADUATION is very special. One for women is rare. Most are suited to men. GRADUATION also has all the bells and whistles meaning it is original. The frame, glass, motto, back dust-cover paper and the much sort after brass CLOVERLEAF hanger engraved with Buckbee for Buckbee Brehm, the publisher. Also, much sought after are hand-written notes. It was the custom to personalize mottos, hopefully, dated.
A father writes, circa the 1920s, 6/05… Abbie – So proud of you! Hope you Keep this forever Had to give you something old to remind you of me love you, Dad PS maybe you’ll put this in your office someday – Get ’em Pumpkin! The motto itself is entirely hand-painted. For the most part, watercolor was used along with the opaque gold ink. Note the watercolor ever-so-lightly running pass the black printed lines. Also, note the illustrator’s logo printed on the bottom left. The logo is yet to be identified, but I am working on it. A Rare Find!
